Huntsville, AL – November 16, 2020 – Sentar, Inc. (Sentar), a women-owned business specializing in advanced cybersecurity and intelligence solutions and technology, announced today that Maggie Brooks, Senior Technical Recruiter, has been awarded the 2020 Regional Distinguished Young AFCEAN Award.
The Distinguished Young AFCEAN Award recognizes and rewards exceptional performance in four areas: leadership and guidance for the Young AFCEAN program, superior technical achievement in the professional arena, a record of going “above and beyond” at the local AFCEA chapter or region level, and mentoring provided for other Young AFCEANs.
Maggie’s membership with AFCEA began two years ago when she joined the Young AFCEANs Low Country Chapter. As her membership evolved, Maggie began to lead fresh, new fundraising ideas and community outreach opportunities. The Young AFCEAN “Feel the Love” Fundraiser, which raised $3,300 for the Rosemary Wenchel STEM Scholarship, was widely successful due to Maggie’s tenacity, as she served as the event organizer and coordinator for all third party vendors.
Maggie’s initial involvement quickly evolved into her becoming the Chair of her chapter’s social media subcommittee, serving as the Young AFCEA – At-Large position on the Board of Directors, and most recently accepting a position with International Young AFCEAN Advisory Council – SIGNAL/PR Committee. When the COVID pandemic forced her chapter to cancel staple fundraising events, such as the chapter’s bi-annual golf tournaments, Maggie was quick to generate alternative ideas, and promptly solicited feedback from chapter members to gauge interest. Her efforts led to the planning of Low Country Chapter’s Inaugural Virtual 5K Fundraiser, being held in the fall 2020.

Maggie will be recognized at AFCEA West 2021 at the San Diego Convention Center from February 16 – 18, 2021.
